2025: A Year to Grow, Learn, and Evolve

As the new year begins, I’ve been thinking about the past year. I looked at what I did well, what I struggled with, and what I learned. It feels good to reflect because it helps me see where I can improve. This year, I want to let go of old habits that didn’t help me and focus on becoming a better version of myself. Starting fresh feels exciting and full of possibilities.          One thing I’m working on is seeing challenges differently. Instead of feeling bad when things don’t go as planned, I want to see those moments as chances to grow. I’ve realized that even small steps can make a big difference over time. I don’t have to be perfect, but I do need to keep trying. Being patient with myself and staying positive will help me reach my goals.        I’ve also decided to spend less time on my phone and computer. I noticed I was wasting a lot of time scrolling when I could have been doing something meaningful. Now, I use t...

My Christmas Holiday Experience

This Christmas holiday was a much-needed break. After a busy year, I finally had the chance to relax and enjoy time with my family. It was a simple but special celebration that reminded me of what truly matters—family, joy, and faith.              One of the highlights of my holiday was spending time with my cousins. We played games, laughed, and shared stories, just like we used to when we were younger. It felt good to forget about phones and just enjoy each other’s company. The fun and laughter made the holiday feel extra special.             Of course, I didn’t forget to attend mass during the holiday. Going to church was a peaceful moment for me to reflect and give thanks. The calm atmosphere and beautiful songs helped me feel connected to the true meaning of Christmas.            This Christmas wasn’t about big celebrations or expensive gifts. It was about re...

A Second Quarter Reflection

During the second quarter, I gained a deeper understanding of HTML, which forms the backbone of website creation. I learned about the two kinds of tags in HTML: the container tags which require opening and closing tags together and the empty tags which stand alone. The structure of an HTML document had been taught to include tags such as <html>, <head>, and <body>. Beyond that, I could learn about heading tags which create titles, formatting tags to change the style of texts and give horizontal rules for dividing sections, and I also learned the look of a webpage through backgrounds, fonts, and tag attributes. Furthermore, I have learned how to include images, create frames, and prepare tables that organize and present information differently. This ensured that I had the courage to create very simple yet functional web pages. I have also been challenged in learning. Remembering the right syntax for many tags and attributes was a significant problem for me. Sometimes, ...

Laws to End Violence Against Women (Thematic Output)

The issue of Violence Against Women (VAW) is a very present matter worldwide, and millions of women are impacted by it, not the least of which are Filipino women. As indicated in the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), almost one in five Filipino women has either been emotionally, physically, or sexually abused by her intimate partner. This sad truth indicates how much more stringent laws and better-supported community systems have to be before women can be free from violence and abuse. In various disguises, VAW manifests from verbal and psychological abuse to that which tortures the body, and up to cases of sexual assault. These do not only affect victims individually but also result in several enumerated effects spreading over families and entire communities. VAW, therefore, calls for collective legal and social attitude changes.           One of the key laws that seeks to protect women and children from violence in the...

A Life of Service and Leadership

Elpidio Quirino , the sixth President of the Philippines, is remembered for his dedication to rebuilding the nation after World War II. Born on November 16, 1890, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Quirino came from humble beginnings. His father was a warden, and his mother was a teacher. Despite financial difficulties, Quirino excelled in his studies. He graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 1915 and passed the bar the same year, marking the start of his journey in public service.        Quirino’s political career began when he served as a private secretary to then-Senate President Manuel Quezon. He was later elected as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives and the Senate. His leadership and diplomatic skills stood out during his tenure as a delegate to the 1934 Constitutional Convention, which paved the way for the establishment of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. During World War II, Quirino played a key ...

Indigenous Peoples Month

Every October, the Philippines celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Month, a time to honor the contributions and heritage of indigenous communities. This year, the theme is “ Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong : Pahalagahan , Pangalagaan at Parangalana ” (Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge). The celebration also marks the 27th anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) of 1997, a law that protects the rights and welfare of indigenous peoples in the country.          The Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights of indigenous communities. It ensures their access to ancestral lands, self-governance, and protection of their culture. This month-long celebration helps raise awareness of their struggles and achievements. Events like cultural shows, exhibits, and educational activities highlight their rich traditions, such as tradition...
