Sta. Catalina's Agriculture: The Source of Community's Pride and Livelihood

Conducting this community-based research was an eye-opening experience for us. Through interviews, and direct interactions with farmers and entrepreneurs, we gained a deeper understanding of the agricultural sector in Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur. This photoblog captures our journey from planning to completion, highlighting the key moments that shaped our research.

Our team gathered for our first research meeting, where we set our goals, assigned tasks, and created a research framework. We discussed the best ways to approach our study, ensuring that our findings would be valuable for the community. This was an important step because it laid the foundation for our research.

With a clear research direction in mind, we started working on our assigned sections. Jayzen Aldridge Eugenio focused on writing about the impact of agriculture on entrepreneurship, while Nethaniah Gaddiel Rabilas worked on creating a creative and engaging title for our study. We made sure that our research was well-organized and easy to understand.

This was one of the most exciting days of our research. We conducted interviews with farmers and entrepreneurs to learn about their struggles and successes. To gain a deeper understanding of local businesses, Glaiza Faye Rabena even tried making lumpianada before interviewing Mrs. Praxedeces Rabino, a local business owner.

We also visited different farms, where farmers showed us how they plant, harvest, and distribute their crops. They shared their challenges, such as unstable market prices, unpredictable weather, and financial struggles. Despite these difficulties, they remain committed to their work.

Aside from traditional farming, we also learned how technology is changing agriculture. Mrs. Maricel Rabena shared how she uses online platforms like Facebook to sell vegetables and reach more customers. She explained that digital marketing has made it easier for farmers and vendors to promote their products, but it also comes with challenges like competition and delivery logistics.

After collecting all the necessary data, we worked  to finalize our research. We carefully reviewed our paper, analyzed our findings, and ensured that our study was well-structured. It was a rewarding moment because we knew that our research would help highlight the importance of agriculture in Sta. Catalina.

This research journey helped us appreciate the importance of agriculture in our community. Farmers and entrepreneurs play a vital role in sustaining Sta. Catalina’s economy, yet they face many challenges. Despite these struggles, their passion and dedication to their livelihood remain strong. Through this study, we hope to raise awareness about their contributions and encourage more support for their businesses.

More than just a school project, this experience taught us the value of research, teamwork, and understanding real-life issues in our community. As we move forward, we hope that our study will inspire others to support local farmers and businesses, ensuring a more sustainable and prosperous future for Sta. Catalina.

A Quarter of Discovery and Learning

This quarter has been a journey of growth and new experiences, much like setting off on an adventure full of discoveries. One of the most significant things I learned was HTML coding, especially in creating different types of lists such as ordered, unordered, and nested lists. At first, it was quite confusing, as the codes seemed like a mix of unfamiliar symbols. But with continuous practice, everything started making sense, and I realized how important proper organization is in building a website. Aside from this, we also worked on Community-Based Research (CBR), where we conducted a study in Tamorong, Sta. Catalina.      Of course, the learning process was not always easy. HTML coding required patience because even a small mistake could affect the entire structure. Meanwhile, our CBR research was also challenging since we had to gather data, interact with people, and ensure the reliability of their responses. There were moments when it felt o...

A Life of Service and Leadership

Elpidio Quirino , the sixth President of the Philippines, is remembered for his dedication to rebuilding the nation after World War II. Born on November 16, 1890, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Quirino came from humble beginnings. His father was a warden, and his mother was a teacher. Despite financial difficulties, Quirino excelled in his studies. He graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 1915 and passed the bar the same year, marking the start of his journey in public service.        Quirino’s political career began when he served as a private secretary to then-Senate President Manuel Quezon. He was later elected as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives and the Senate. His leadership and diplomatic skills stood out during his tenure as a delegate to the 1934 Constitutional Convention, which paved the way for the establishment of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. During World War II, Quirino played a key ...

Lunar New Year: A Filipino Fiesta!

Chinese New Year is one of the most festive and widely celebrated events in the Philippines. Even though it is a Chinese tradition, many Filipinos actively participate in the celebration every year. Streets are decorated with red lanterns, families share special dishes like tikoy and dumplings, and businesses offer discounts to attract customers. But why is this foreign tradition so important in the Philippines?      One of the main reasons Filipinos celebrate Chinese New Year is because of the strong influence of Chinese culture in the country. For centuries, Chinese traders and migrants have lived in the Philippines, bringing their customs, traditions, and beliefs. Over time, they became part of Filipino society, and their traditions blended with local customs. Today, many Filipino-Chinese families continue to celebrate their heritage, and even non-Chinese Filipinos join in the festivities.        Filipinos love celebrations tha...
